Becoming a Thoughtful Consumer of Fashion : It's So You!

Becoming a Thoughtful Consumer of Fashion

by Mary Sheehan Warren on 12/09/16

After I finished the book, Overdressed: The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion by Elizabeth Cline I had a sudden attack of distress about where my career had taken me:

Have I added to this "fast fashion" craze with my Hotsheets and wardrobe secrets and endless tidbits on accessorizing?

Quickly, I was relieved to realize that the answer was no...but also yes.

In my book, on this blog, and in just about any talk I've given in my almost 21 years of doing this stuff, I've emphasized buying quality, maintaining clothes, and owning less overall.

On the other hand, I could have become pickier about the retailers I visit and more vigilant about recycling the things I no longer use.

So, at about the time I was teaching my fashion marketing class about ethics and sustainability in the fashion industry, I gathered my thoughts together in a blog for the Catholic University Busch School of Business. It's the recalling of a conversation I had with a friend about "landfill fashion."

Consider this a launch of a great new adventure!

Cheers!
